Dear Members, Colleagues and Partners,
I am writing to provide you with the news prior notice of the announcement relating to staff that
will be made shortly.
After much thought and discussion, Dr. David Alexander has decided to step down from the
position of the Executive Director of the FDI World Dental Federation.
Dr. Alexander has been with FDI for almost 2 years and in that time he has been the steady
influence over many directions of the FDI Organization and management of the new FDI Head
Office, recently relocated to Switzerland. Dr. Alexander has brought much energy and
professional expertise to FDI, establishing a firm foundation for the public health and building
many key relationships across a broad spectrum of organizations and individuals.
Throughout his association with FDI he has shown a passion for the cause of improving oral
health and been an inspiration to many, not only in the dental field, but across the health care
professional sector.
We all have tremendous mixed feelings over this decision. It is therefore with both reluctance
and sadness that the FDI Executive Committee has accepted his decision, with an immediate
effect.
Dr. Alexander and the field of international health will both benefit tremendously from whatever
challenges and opportunities he takes on next.
While the announcement about further recruitment for the Executive Director will be
forthcoming, please join me in recognizing Dr. Alexander’s contributions to FDI and global oral
health, and wishing him well for his future.
